Introduction to Mail Time Machine
Learn how Qboxmail Mail Time Machine gives users read-only access to recent mailbox backups for message recovery.
Mail Time Machine
Mail Time Machine is a tool that lets you access backups of an email account from today back up to 15 days.
You can access Mail Time Machine (MTM) at https://mtm.qboxmail.com/ by entering the email account login credentials and selecting the day for which you want to view the backup. Once you have logged in, you will see an interface that is completely identical to Webmail, but with limited functionality because backups are available in read-only mode.
In MTM, all personal folders are shown, both subscribed and unsubscribed.
Backups are performed using Snapshot technology at midnight every day and therefore contain all messages from all folders that were present in the user's mailbox on our servers at that specific moment.
Features
Through MTM you can:
- view the emails included in the backup
- view the source of a message
- download individual email messages in EML format
- request a restore
To download a message, right-click the message and then click Download. To recover multiple messages, please read the documentation about recovery.
Backups are read-only and it is not possible to delete or modify their content. Backups are a “snapshot” of the data on our servers for a single mailbox at a specific point in time. If your email account is configured in POP3 without keeping a copy of messages on our server, it will not be possible to recover messages deleted by mistake because there is no trace of them on the server, so the backup would be empty. Conversely, if you are configured in POP3 with a copy of messages kept on the server or in IMAP, the messages will be present on the server and it will be possible to recover them.
