Mozilla Thunderbird

Configure Mozilla Thunderbird for Qboxmail email, contacts, and calendars with the recommended account settings.

In this guide, we will configure the Mail, Contacts, and Calendar programs in Mozilla Thunderbird to access the email, address book, and calendar services offered by Qboxmail.

This way, your email, address book, and calendars in Webmail will always stay synchronized with Mozilla Thunderbird. New contacts or events created in Webmail will also be visible in Mozilla Thunderbird and vice versa.

Info

If you need to configure your email account using Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync go to the dedicated guide.

What you need

  • An active email account on Qboxmail
  • A domain with a Professional or Enterprise plan to access sharing services
  • Mozilla Thunderbird (version 60 or higher, downloadable here)
  • Qboxmail Plugin (downloadable here)

Compatibility

We recommend using Thunderbird version 68 or later to ensure the best user experience.

The Qboxmail plugin depends on the Thunderbird version you use (version 60 or 68), the plan you use, and whether you need to use white label services. You therefore need to choose the appropriate plugin from those available.

Info

Access to the Address Book and Calendar sharing services is available only for domains with a Professional or Enterprise plan

Email configuration

To configure the Qboxmail email account in Mozilla Thunderbird, you need to use the POP or IMAP protocols to receive messages and SMTP to send them.

  • In the Thunderbird menu ( ☰ ), click Settings
  • Click Account Settings
  • In the window that opens on screen, click Account Actions
  • Choose Add Mail Account

Here you can enter the details for your email account.

  • Name: the name to display as the sender in emails sent from the program
  • Email address: your email address, which is also the username for the email account
  • Password: the email account password

On this screen, you need to manually set the connection parameters for Qboxmail email services.

For Resellers, White Label access parameters are available to configure in users’ email clients. By using White Label parameters, any direct reference to Qboxmail will be removed. You can download the PDF file with the White Label Parameters (login required) for accessing the services from the customer area after logging in.

The username, which corresponds to the email address, and the password are the same for both the incoming and outgoing server.

To check and validate the settings entered, click the “Re-test” button to run a connection test.

Once the configuration is complete, click the “Done” button to close the window, and Thunderbird will start synchronizing the account’s mail.

Address Book configuration

To synchronize and share the Qboxmail address book with Thunderbird, you need to install the plugin from the link provided earlier in the “What you need” section. Depending on the Thunderbird version installed on your computer, you need to choose the corresponding Connector and Integrator plugin version.

Since Thunderbird version 68, the Integrator plugin has been included in the Connector, so you only need to download the latter. Various plugin versions are also available depending on the subscribed plan and whether you need to use white label parameters.

Once you have downloaded the required files, you can install them by following these steps:

  • In the menu ( ☰ ), click Add-ons and Themes
  • Click Extensions again in the left sidebar
  • Click the button with the ⚙ icon
  • Select Install Add-on From File… and select the downloaded plugin
  • Click Add
  • Restart Thunderbird by clicking the Restart button
  • Enter the details for the account to configure in the window that opens on screen

After this, the address book will be correctly configured and synchronized in Thunderbird.

To verify that the installation process was successful, you can view the address books by clicking the Address Book button on the action bar.

Calendar configuration

To synchronize and share the calendar, you need to have subscribed to a Professional or Enterprise plan, as specified in the Compatibility section.

If the plan is compatible, after installing our plugin by following the procedure described in the previous section, the calendars configured on the Qboxmail platform and their events will also be visible in Thunderbird.
