Tracemail
Use Qboxmail Tracemail to analyze inbound and outbound email logs, delivery status, errors, and message details.
Tracemail lets you analyze, in real time, the logs for incoming email traffic (Received Mail), outgoing email traffic (Sent Mail), and access to POP, IMAP, and Webmail services, so you can identify any issues related to a specific email account.
Tracemail keeps a history of up to 30 days.
To view logs:
- Click Tracemail in the Control Panel sidebar.
- Select the type of action you want to view.
- Enter the name of the domain whose logs you want to view.
- Enter the name of an email account whose logs you want to view.
- Specify the date for which you want to view the logs.
Once the fields are filled in, any search results will appear. For each result, you can see the outcome, the date/time of the event, and other useful information for analyzing the data found.
You can export the details of each search result in PDF format, or the overall summary of all results in CSV format.
Accesses
By selecting accesses in the Action field, user logins and logouts within POP, IMAP, and Webmail services are shown. Accesses are divided into “Successful” and “Failed”. At logout, for POP and IMAP sessions, the amount of traffic generated, the number of messages deleted during the session, and the email client used by the user to connect to the service are recorded.
The details shown by Tracemail in the accesses section are as follows:
| Action | Type of action recorded (e.g. login, logout) |
|---|---|
| Login | Date and time when the action occurred (e.g. 27/8/2019, 12:51:36) |
| Logout | Date and time when the action occurred (e.g. 27/8/2019, 12:51:36) |
| User | Username of the user who performed the action (e.g. mario.rossi@qboxmail.it) |
| Protocol | Access protocol used to connect to Qboxmail systems (e.g. IMAP) |
| Deleted msgs | Number of messages deleted during the session |
| Expunged msgs | Number of messages removed during the session |
| Trashed msgs | Number of messages moved to the trash during the session |
| Client | Email client used by the user (e.g. Microsoft Outlook 2016) |
| Server | Qboxmail server on which the action takes place (e.g. pop06) |
| Local IP | IP address of the Qboxmail server on which the action takes place (e.g. 185.97.217.80) |
| Session | Unique ID of the session on which the action takes place (e.g. imlxDheRE95bj8Qu) |
| Remote IP | IP address of the server from which the user connected (e.g. 81.123.176.56) |
| In traffic | Incoming traffic generated by the session |
| Out traffic | Outgoing traffic generated by the session |
Failed accesses
For failed accesses, the reason is recorded (e.g. incorrect password, disabled user, unauthorized IP, invalid OTP). In the event of a failed access, the cause is shown under Login error:
| auth-failed | The password entered is incorrect |
| many-connections | The user has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections |
| ip-notallowed | The user is trying to access from an IP address not included among the authorized ones |
| user-disabled | The user or the entire domain is disabled |
Failed connection errors, timeouts, or attempts made with an incorrect username are not included in the access list.
Received mail
By selecting received mail, you can view all email received by a specific domain. Received email is divided into: accepted, quarantined, rejected.
For each result, various information is shown, including the message delivery status (deliveries), the folder where it was delivered, whether it was forwarded to another email address, whether the automatic reply was sent, or whether a message filtering rule was applied. The results of the Antivirus and Antispam tests are also provided.
For rejected or quarantined messages, you can check the reasons why the Email Security system decided not to deliver the email message to the user.
Messages from mail servers globally marked as a source of spam may not be reported.
Locate message
For each listed result, you can also use the Locate message function, which lets you identify the folder where the message is currently located, including the trash, or whether the message has been deleted or downloaded via the POP protocol.
The locate message function may not be available if the recipient's mailbox has configured external message forwarding.
Sent mail
By selecting sent mail, you can view all email sent from the specified domain or account and determine, in real time, whether a message that has just been sent has already been delivered or is still queued.
Sent mail also reports any messages blocked by Qboxmail's Email Security antispam and antivirus system. Sending these messages is blocked to prevent the spread of unwanted or risky material and to maintain the high reputation of our SMTP sending systems.
For each result, various information is shown, including sender and recipient, subject and message size, and the server and port used for sending. Email is divided into delivered, rejected, queued on the recipient server.
PDF report
The PDF Report function lets you generate a document containing all the detailed information for individual Accesses, Received Mail, and Sent Mail results, which can be sent to Qboxmail technical support or shared with customers and IT contacts.
